What are these climate conferences all about? COP22 – Podcast

unfccc-logoMost years,  for the last 24, there has been a major climate change related conference held under the auspices of the United Nations.

This years’ event, COP 22, begins in Marrakech on Monday 7th November.  The Oxford Adaptation Academy, which is held in August each year has a growing network of alumni and partners, and we thought it might be of interest to them if we were to try to follow its progress by recording short voice-blogs generally every evening.  The faculty and some guests will be joining in over the two weeks.  If you are interested and would like to follow the rest, please check out the GCAP website blog here: http://www.climateadaptation.cc/news-blog/blog.

I took on the first, so to begin with, I thought I’d try to set the scene, and along the way to explain a few of the terms and acronyms used in this world of complex negotiation, especially as I’m aware that some of the alumni are not approaching this event from a climate perspective and are perhaps doing so for the first time.  So, if you have ever wondered why they are called “COP”s, what Kyoto, Darfur, Doha, Rio and Paris were all about, what the milestones along the way were, then listen up – it’s only 6.5 minutes long.

If you have had your interest piqued, then I can wholeheartedly recommend Leonardo DiCaprio’s film; Before the Flood – it’s free on YouTube.

Thank you, Graham.
